Love Parade Stampede Kills 18 / Organizer Ends Event Forever
Our prayers go out to those killed in a stampede at the Love Parade in Germany. The party, however, appears to still be going on. You can view live feeds of the festivities here.
Update at 9:30 p.m.: It appears the live feeds of the festivities have been taken down replaced by this message:
"Our wish to arrange a happy togetherness was overshadowed by the tragic accidents today. Therefore we are ending the live stream of the Loveparade. Our sincere condolences to all the relatives and our thoughts are with all of those who are currently being taken care of. The city of Duisburg has set up a hotline at which concerned relatives can get further information: ++49 - (0) 203-94000."
Update 7.25.2010: It appears the Love Parade is no more. Reuters is reporting the following:
Organizer Rainer Schaller said he was discontinuing the event and expressed his sympathy for the victims.
"The Love Parade was always a peaceful and joyous party that will now forever be overshadowed by yesterday's tragic events," he said. "Out of respect for the victims, families and friends, we will discontinue the event. The Love Parade is no more."
