Nyotaimori (女体盛り): Female Body Presentation
Once upon a time, in a dark and smoky underground room in Japan, a few gangsters decided it would be a great idea to spread raw fish on a naked woman and eat it.
At least that is how the legend goes. No one really knows how or why Nyotaimori (女体盛り - "female body presentation") originated in Japan. Some residents of western nations consider it a Japanese custom. However, according to the Japan Times, it is regulated to the dark, underground corners of Japan.
To gain some additional insight into this odd and intriguing practice, we contacted Jake Adelstein, author of Tokyo Vice, and a consultant who is considered one of the foremost experts on organized crime in Japan.
